Partnered Project: Oroton Resort Capsule Collection Spring/Summer 2024-25

DESIGN STATEMENT
This fashion range is the result of an opportunity to design a capsule resort collection in 2023 with Oroton as part of the Partnered Project module for RMIT’s Bachelor of Fashion (Design). The project requirements were to design a five look capsule resort collection which also includes accessories, bag and a signature print.
Oroton, an iconic Australian brand, is celebrated for its luxury accessories and leather goods, along with its highly sought-after women’s fashion. In creating this collection, I aimed to honor Oroton’s heritage while exploring new markets, including aspirational younger women familiar with the brand via older family members or through Oroton’s well known luxury leathergoods, heritage branding and advertisements. Featuring men’s swimwear, the collection also lays groundwork for a future menswear line. Combining Oroton’s luxury DNA with youthful colors, prints, textures, and modern shapes, it aspires to attract a broader luxury fashion market.
MOODBOARD
In 2023, as the world emerges from the pandemic and international travel resumes, my concept for Oroton’s Resort Collection for S/S 2024/25 centers on a luxurious African vacation. Inspired by utilitarian silhouettes like safari jackets, cargo pants, and summer dresses, I’ve reinterpreted these archetypes with unique twists. Gold evening accents pay homage to ancient Egyptian statuary, while prints feature vintage botanical illustrations of South African flora—Proteas, Flame Lilies, Gerbera Daisies, African Violets, and Birds of Paradise. The "big new idea" is men’s swimwear, setting the stage for a complementary menswear range within Oroton’s broader lifestyle offerings.

PRINTS
Placement Print:
Inspired by the vibrant flora and fauna of a luxurious African safari, these two print designs burst with color and intricate detail, capturing the joy of an exotic, glamorous getaway. Vintage botanical illustrations give the prints a retro charm, while the panel-based layout—with South African animals and flowers set against vivid stripes and bold patterns—adds a unique visual rhythm. Designed for digital printing, this placement print can be adapted as a silk scarf, a nod to Oroton’s iconic heritage in scarves, enriching the collection with both nostalgia and contemporary appeal.

Repeat Print
This second print design features the Oroton brand’s iconic loop logo as the backdrop, layered over a striking canvas of vintage botanical illustrations inspired by South African blooms. Incorporating the logo reinforces Oroton’s brand identity and roots the collection firmly within its aesthetic universe. This timeless design can seamlessly carry into future collections, lending itself especially well to Oroton’s signature silk scarves, making it a versatile addition to the brand’s enduring legacy.

PHYSICAL PROTOTYPES
Physical prototypes of two looks (Look 1 & 5) were made for the collection’s presentation which I photographed and shown below.

MOCK ADVERTISING CAMPAIGN
To present a comprehensive marketing strategy to the industry partner, I developed a detailed schedule that includes a launch at Australian Fashion Week and an advertising campaign spanning print and social media.
The campaign for Oroton’s Resort Spring/Summer 2024/25 collection spotlights two iconic women, Adut Akech and Elle Macpherson, who embody the relaxed glamour and luxury synonymous with the Oroton brand. Both are aspirational figures for a significant portion of the target audience.
Using 3D digital imaging software, I created mock-up advertising visuals featuring digital avatars of Adut and Elle. These images showcase the collection’s essence, with the models exuding playful elegance and capturing the glamorous vacation mood inspired by the African continent.
